One Monday morning as the sun was rising, I was on route to make my usual cup of coffee when Mark Davies ushered me into the reception area. Intrigued, I followed and discovered that he and David Leen were discussing ways in which to make the area more interesting to our visitors.
After much deliberation, a few minor changes were decided upon – walls were to come down, glass partitions to be put up and to ensure that we had a touch of ‘je ne sais quoi’, we came to the very cultured conclusion that we would display some art work and I would be in charge of acquiring this. Not only did we aim to make our reception a little bit out of the ordinary, we wanted to support local artists and offer them a chance to show their work to a diverse audience.
I set about advertising the opportunity of a rolling 2-3 month exhibition to local students and art groups.
Eventually I was lucky enough to come across the work of Alice Walton, a First Class graduate from the University of Brighton. Alice has had her work shown at The Tate Modern and was offered a residency at the Victoria and Albert Museum!
After much organising Alice came into the office and set up her artwork, as I avidly looked on. The reception area is now an interesting and cultured area and we look forward to the next art instalment!
