Permanent

Permanent positions are roles where you become employed by a company, are paid an annual salary and have access to a variety of company benefits depending on what is offered by the firm you have chosen to work for. These roles generally offer greater job security however arguably less freedom to change roles on a frequent basis. Progression is possible in both contractor and permanent roles.

Contract

The majority of the positions we fill are contractor roles across the UK. These contractor roles can range between 3 months to a year (sometimes longer) meaning you will effectively be self-employed but based onsite depending on the terms of the contract. One of the main benefits of becoming a contractor is that you can command a higher salary/daily rate on a like for like basis compared to a permanent role and you also have a high degree of flexibility in terms of where you work and the kind of job you do next. Although you may not be entitled to sick or holiday pay you will have the freedom to gain invaluable experience in different businesses.

What is an umbrella company?

On becoming a contractor you will be responsible for managing your own paperwork and taxes for the year unless you choose to use an umbrella company who you can do this for you.

There are a number of umbrella companies in the market whose service will vary, however generally speaking if you choose to use an umbrella company as a contractor they can manage your invoicing, tax and payroll to save you doing this for yourself. Essentially you will become an employee of the umbrella company yet still be able to work on a contract basis in a role of your choice.

InTime

Contractors who have been placed in roles through Grovelands (associates) can use our online InTime platform to submit their invoices and timesheets.

Associates can access their account using secure login details to view previous timesheets & invoices, update their bank details if they’re not part of an umbrella company and submit expenses.

Grovelands resourcingAssessments & interviews

To ensure we deliver on our promise of an excellent candidate experience our recruitment consultants will meet every candidate that has been shortlisted for a role either face-to-face or via Skype. We will support you throughout this process and answer any questions you may have.

Interview questions are a mixture of competency, skills and value based questions to gauge your expertise, experience and interest for the role as well as assess how well suited you are to the company. Feedback is provided after your interview where you will be notified about qualifying for a second interview and ultimately be informed if you’ve successfully secured a role.

In some cases, and depending on the seniority of the position, you will be sent numerical and verbal tests, and we will arrange assessment days which will include a group activity to understand how you communicate and work with others, a role play and short interview.
