We’re a charitable bunch at Grovelands, and love an excuse to don our fancy dress, host a bake sale, or put our running gear on to raise some pennies for worthy causes. Over the years we’ve donated to a whole host of different charities, which has been brilliant.
Wanting to make more of an impact and give even more back to the community, we decided to form a partnership with one local charity who we would donate to on a regular basis, over a long period of time.
Selecting our charity partner was no easy process. We knew we wanted to support a small local cause, but this only whittled down the choice slightly. One of the most important parts of the process was that the whole company had their say, so a multi-stage voting system was implemented.
At the end of the final voting round, there was one clear favourite – Sussex Oakleaf; a fantastic organisation who provide recovery support to those suffering with mental health problems. We got in touch, met with their lovely team, and discussed how the partnership could work. In addition to sharing fundraising ideas, we also spoke about other ways we can get involved and help. At Grovelands every employee is allowed to take a paid day off a year to spend with a charity of their choice (in addition to their holiday allowance), so we were keen to hear about any volunteering opportunities.
To launch the partnership we invited the Sussex Oakleaf team to our offices for the afternoon, so that they could get to know the Grovelands team, and so that we can learn more about the work they do. We celebrated with cake, bubbles, and the presentation of a big cheque for £1,037.14 – money we had raised during the months leading up to the partnership being finalised.
This is just the start of many ‘big cheque’ moments – keep an eye out for information on our fundraising events.
