Grovelands celebrates Halloween in a fangtastic display of grisly garb and ghastly grub: Kim Jamieson gives a rundown of the guys and ghouls who clawed their way to the top of the costume contest.
In the eerie light of morn on the 31st of October, the Grovelands ghosts and ghouls came slinking out of their homely hollows to gather for a day of grisly gobbling and ghastly garb.
As the gruesome Grovelanders made their way work-ward, gradually the kitchen began to bulge with devilish delicacies of every kind.
By the time the pot luck lunch hour approached, the ravenous recruiters shared their treats and tucked in to the wonderful spread that had accumulated. Special mention should go to the gorgeously gory severed finger sandwiches and the many baked treats that would satisfy the most discerning of demon.
Following the feast, photographs were taken of the spooky get-up that people had donned for the occasion, and voting of the best dressed commenced.
Although a repugnant effort was made by (nearly) all, some costumes were more freakishly fiendish than others, with Kim McInally rightfully bagging the prize for ‘The Scariest Attire ’ as the little girl from The Exorcist.
Another eerie endeavour was made by the creepy crawly Matt Roff, with his homemade spider outfit claiming him the coveted ‘Most Creative Ensemble’ award.
Other hair-raising mentions go to the alarming angel of death Emilia Pistilli, who covered herself in a deathly shade of grey, and swooped through the office bringing terror wherever she flew.
Tom and Kieran gained a few pounds as the rather portly Tweedledee and Tweedledum. They rolled around the office offering a much needed injection of comedy into our devilish day. For this entertaining effort they gained the revered ‘Funniest Outfit’ prize.
Last but not least the disturbed Black Swan, Jennifer Harrington, pirouetted into the ‘Best Dressed’ prize slot, and smooth criminal Sam Costigan moonwalked into the spotlight to join her.
An important final mention must go to birthday boy Andy who came in the best costume of all… zilch. I can’t wait to see what he will do next year!
Many thanks go to tigress Laura Heaps for organising such a frightfully fun day!
