Kerry Wright joined the Grovelands team in 2012 and has grown from strength to strength whilst working here. She was supported by the company to complete her CIMA Diploma in Management Accounting and gained 3 promotions: a testament to her ongoing hard work and commitment to the business.
Below we explore her journey with Grovelands.
When did you start working at Grovelands?
I joined the company in 2012 as a Financial Assistant and had 2 years’ previous experience working in a finance department.
How has your career progressed since you joined the company?
Initially my role mostly involved manual processing of timesheets and invoices but I gradually took on more responsibility and then was promoted to the Assistant Finance Manager. I managed a few members of the team but was naturally an analytical thinker so my skills were applied to critique processes and practices within the business. In March 2014 I was promoted to Business Analyst. My manager recognised there was an area within the finance department that could be developed to help the business grow. I worked on a lot of projects involving change management and implementing systems to improve our practices.
How have Grovelands supported you with your career?
Upon joining the company Grovelands offered to support my studies towards a CIMA Diploma in Management Accounting. I was also part of a Mentoring Programme where I met my mentor once a month to set objectives and monitor my progress. From the very beginning of my time with Grovelands I was involved in internal training, mainly their Learning & Developments Programme as well as a Leadership Development Programme; I found all of them practical and informative.
What do you do in your current role?
As the Commercial Accountant I support business development by scoping out commercial prices for new clients and projects. I ensure we have a competitive edge as well as make sure we meet the needs of the client. I enjoy the challenge of putting together complex pricing structures so straightforward costs are communicated to the client. The course I attended helped me further analyse what works well for Grovelands, how to grow and areas to develop and save. I was able to apply the concepts learnt in the course to the business and visa versa to apply the experience from my role to the course.
What do you like about Grovelands’ business culture?
One of the traits I like is that the management team are open and approachable. They share a lot of knowledge, both in terms of their experience and internal information about the shape and performance of the business. I also like that Grovelands invested in my career to ensure they had skilled people in their business but also to help me develop and grow.
